Tunic knitting pattern best for the summer, inspired by the sea

I'm always inspired by nature and this time it was no different; the Seafoam Top knitting pattern draws its inspiration from the sea. Waves breaking to form foam inspired me to feature the horizontal ruching pattern. The three different colors reflect the inspiration; the body is worked in the dark blue color, changing to the lighter blue around the bust, and featuring white ruching on the shoulders, resembling the waves. This seamless tunic knit pattern draws its inspiration from the quiet yet dramatic beauty of nature. The top is designed to be timeless and fit any occasion.

How is this linen top knitting pattern constructed?

The pattern is worked seamlessly top-down, starting with the shoulder straps featuring horizontal ruching. First, the shoulder straps are casted on simultaneously with the provisional cast on method and worked from back to front. Stitches are then casted on with the backwards loop (single cast on) method between the straps for the body, connecting the straps and the front with the back. Increases are then worked in the lower portion of the body, starting below the bust, eventually creating an A shape that results in a drapey, relaxed fit that compliments any type of figure.

Finished bust circumference

The tunic was designed to be fitted around the bust with a negative ease of 8 in/20.5 cm.

  • The finished bust circumference is 20 (24, 28, 32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52) in/ 51 (61, 71, 81.5, 91.5, 101.5, 112, 122, 132) cm.
  • The top will fit bust circumference of 28 (32, 36, 40, 44, 48, 52, 56, 60) in/71 (81.5, 91.5, 101.5, 112, 122, 132, 142, 152.5) cm.
  • 24 sts and 28 rows = 4 in/10cm in stockinette stitch in the round on larger needles
  • 28 sts and 40 rows = 4 in/10cm in stockinette stitch in the round on smaller needles
