Newborn and baby cardigan knitting pattern with lace and cables

The body is worked with a positive ease of 1-1 ½ in / 2.5-4 cm to achieve a classic fit. It features a flower pattern with bobbles and pointelle stitches, adding some extra sweetness to the baby cardigan.

The design was inspired by my newborn daughter Sofie who is already so dear to me, and deserves a unique, one-of-a-kind cardigan to keep her warm and snuggly. The baby sweater is knitted with Dapple, a yarn by Brooklyn Tweed that combines the warmth of merino wool with the softness and drape of cotton.

How difficult is it to knit this baby cardigan?

Sofie's Cardigan pattern is suitable for an intermediate knitter who has experience with knitting cables, simple lacework, increasing and decreasing stitches and basic sewing skills.

  • appropriate for a confident knitter;
  • a fun challenge for a beginner knitter;
  • a good practice project for someone who wants to do a full size pieced sweater but hasn’t made one yet;
  • and a fun baby knitting pattern to knit!
