About

Nest Creative Works celebrates nature, modern design, and sustainable materials.

Our yarns and knitting tools are carefully selected with extra attention to detail. We believe in the magic of using natural, sustainable fibers, thoughtful making, and finding beauty in the creative process.

We're on a mission to provide the highest-quality materials for knitters and inspire them to get lost in the beauty of intentional, slow making.

Katerina Rieckel, knitting pattern designer and owner of Nest Creative Works.

Katerina Rieckel

Owner, knitwear designer and marketing specialist

Hi! I'm Kat: knitwear designer, art historian, textile artist, maker, and digital marketer.

Nest Creative Works is where I explore slow, intentional making and curate a selection of high-quality materials.

I’ve been knitting since childhood and designing patterns since 2017. I believe in the magic of making your own clothes, where each stitch is shaped and a story is told through fiber.

Originally from the Czech Republic, I have been living in New York for almost a decade. My love of natural textures is deeply rooted in the time I spent on my family’s sheep farm. I work primarily with rustic, natural yarns that whisper a story of their origins.

Press & notable collaborations

Knitting and crochet designs by Katerina Rieckel have appeared in a number of yarn store websites and publications. Notable collaborations include:

  • By Hand Serial, Lookbook N. 14, pattern Lady of the Lake shawl.
  • The book Make It In a Day: Stylish Coasters by Annie’s Publishing, sheep coaster pattern.
  • Quince & Co. supported the Seafoam Top knitting pattern design by providing yarn and selling bundles.
  • Battenkill Fibers' Shushan yarn collaboration, involving two new knitting patterns. We worked together again more recently to develop Nest Creative Works DK weight baby alpaca and cormo wool yarn.

Natural yarns with character

Katerina's experience with living on a small sheep farm has deeply influenced her view on fiber arts. She prefers using natural yarns that are locally sourced or European yarns she fell in love with during her childhood (her European yarn stash travelled with her to the States!).

She loves yarns with a lot of character. Her passion was realized when she designed and developed her own yarn in collaboration with Battenkill Fibers, a local fiber mill in Greenwich, New York.

Do you share our passion for natural, sustainable fibers and would like to work on a project together?
